10-20 is a great lens. it does have some light fall. dont get boothered by the light fall.

this lens also has the reputation of getting a right copy.

one important advice for such a wide angle...dont expect sharpness as u would ahve experienced in a prime or even ur 17-70

its a common mistake we make the moement we see the picture from such a wide angle lens..

as much as possible close the aperture and try hitting the hyperfocal length to get some excellent perspective..

10-20 is a great lens. at 10mm there is will some light fall off.Dont let that ruin ur enjoyment of taking pictures.

go out and take some amazing pictures......

this is just a warning coz i did the same mistake of expecting too much sharpness untill i realised what to expect. Now in my 5D the 12-24 is a fav lens.

the lens according to me performs better with the full frame over the cropped sensor..thats how much i love this lens...i initially thought of seeling since 12mm was waaaaaaaaaaaay to wide..but after my trip to grandcanyon, i had no second thoughts to keep it forever.

I doubt it, that is the problem I had when flying to the US in August (just after all the problems) we couldn't take anything larger than a small laptop bag. I would guess you need to check it so you might want some sort of case to but the bag in to help protect it. Not sure what the pros do, would like to find out though.
I just came back from a US trip abroad with two carry-ons (no checked luggage): http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...mp;forum_id=11
1. A large Pelican camera bag (1D MrkII, 100-400L, EF 28-135, Sigma 12-24EX, 150 macro, 1x&2xTC and 580EX)
2. A roller case with the 500mm f/4 inside (with all my clothings wrapped around it)

-> No problem at all even through Custom - The only issue was a small bottle of aftershave which didn't have a clear plastic bag at security

NHL that's cool, I will keep an eye this side but at the moment for international flights they are being a lot more strict (well this side of the pond anyway!!

I still have it - It's my favorite lens and would never give it up
The 120-300 f/2.8 EX is quite discrete for a lens with a 600mm reach... It is about the size of a 100-400L when extended and low-key black
The 500mm f/4 is something else (May be Nikon got it right to give you a choice of color)
You show up at a beach resort with this obscene white lens, and you'll be the talk of the 'neighborhood'. My family is actually quite embarassed to stay near me with this lens - I try to minimize its size by removing the lens hood, but then it look like you carrying a large bowl of cereal or soup... It's also some 3lb heavier than the 120-300 for that extra 100mm reach to 700mm with the 1.4x TC!
-> and you'll still need another zoom for the shorter reaches
To it credit though the 'bokeh' of the 500mm is amazing almost at any apertures...

Hey NHL

i am guessing ur talking about a barrel..like a gun barrel..

i just saw the lens pictures in some other thread..damn big..its not just going to scare ur family members but attract unwanted crowds too.

its like 5k and it does attract a loot of crowd..

and please post some pictures out of that Exxtra Large Bazoooka.

I want to get the 120-300. i want to get the 120-300 to just keep it for birdings. or gen tele.....i know it works amazingly well with 1.5x and 2X.

just that its pretty darn costly. waiting for my returns...and going to put the returns on this lens.

i wish i won a lottery

500mm is my dream lens....i love doing sport

hey NHL

any idea on how the 120-300 performs on a 5D.

any known reports of problems or anything..i know u aer shooting in either the 1.3X cropped sensor or the 10D sensor.

So any thoughts would be great here. i am thinking between 400 L and 120-300

thanks
