Andrew, have a look at the following links where they are reviewed.

http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/len...4556/index.htm

I have not used either of the two lenses myself but you they both have strengths and weaknessesso you you will have to makea choice based on what areas are important to you.

Hi Mark,

I have looked at some amazing shots which where taken with the Sigma 12-24 and they look great...But i came across the Tokina on ebay where im bidding on a Epedition 8....

I'll take alook at the links you provided and hopefully make my mind up..

I would of gone out today with the Tamron to give it a whirl..But i needed to re-build my wall as the last one blow down in the gale force winds we've been having.

Anyway going to look now

Cheers Mate

they are both very good lenses, but one thing to keep in mind is the Tokina is designed for APS-C size sensors, so it will not work on a camera with a full frame sensor like the 5D. The Sigma will work on either, so if you ever plan on upgrading to the 5D or 1Ds Mark II, the Tokina will not work. But the Tokina is also a bit cheaper usually. I got a great deal on a Tokina so even though I do plan on going to a full frame camera eventually, I couldn't pass it up for the time being.

hey wrams

if ur planning to use the 30D for a long time and not move to a full frame, the tokina is a better buy. Its made for the 1.6x sensor. And digitally its better to use on a 30D.

The sigma 12-24 was made for a full frmae and though it can be used on a 1.6x sensor..he tokina 12-24 is much sharper and much better...

the difference could be very small, but still the tokina 12-24 is better on a digitial 1.6x camera.

Yes the Tokina is sharper on an APS-c camera, but the Sigma 12-24 has HSM (faster AF and with Full-Time manual overide)

,,, Ditto with the Sigma 10-20mm with HSM which is also sharper!

Not sure why I didn't mention the 10-20 as this is on my list of next 3 lenses (other 2 being Sigma 120-300 f2.8 and Canon 85mm f1.8). I have not played with it in anger but from what I have read and handling it in the shop all looks to be nice!
