The Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 is a better lens since this Sigma does not have HSM - you're not losing much...
-> The Tamron is actually a bargain as compared to the EF-s 15-55 f/2.8

Ok. I've ordered a Tamron 17-50 F/2.8 and a Sigma 10-20mm.

Next on the list is a Macro lens. Looking at some lens tests on photozone.de the Canon looks like the best lens for the money ( 280 british pounds). It seems quite good at F/5.6 and F/8 and not too bad at F/16. http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/len...0_28/index.htm

The Sigma 105mm(No HSM and230 British Pounds) is ok at up to F/11 and worse than the Canon at F/22. http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/len...5_28/index.htm

The Sigma 150mm HSM F/2.8 (around 340 British Pounds) doesn't look all that impressive above F/16. http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/len...0_28/index.htm

Also considering the Tamron 90mm F/2.8, also doesn't look very good above F/16 ( around 200 British Pounds). http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/len...0_28/index.htm

Whats your opinion?

It depends on what you compare the 150mm against... :-)
Against the MTF's of the 'L' Canon EF-180mm f/3.5 USM macro: http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/len...0_35/index.htm

-> The sigma is faster with f/2.8 and not that bad hey (especially when coupled with the 1.6x crop and @ 1/2 the cost of the L):

The Canon macro is way too expensive and doesn't offer that much.I guess my question is the Sigma 150mm worth the extra 80 or so pounds over the canon 100?

I played with the Sigma for a bit at Focus on Imaging last month, but the hall was poorly lit, so no chance of a proper test.

BTW i shot a few with the 70-200 today
