NHL ....its specifically for you. Sigma have been hearing NHL for a while i guess.

What will they call it next (since SigMonster was already taken)?

Looks like a rocket launcher.

Better not carry it on your shoulder; arrest would follow immediately.

I agree with PeterP - It's at least in the 8-10K range, why would they priced it cheaper than other lens when this lens is so unique?
-> This one is aim squarely at the folks who shoot with a 400mm f/2.8 (also heavy) - with a bit more reach or need a zoom for better framing (which is more convenient than switching to a 2nd camera with a shorter lens)

The 2x makes it double duty and would apeal to the bird shooters...
It'll also makes a good spy tool - Imagine an ISO 6400 with a 500 f/2.8
-> i.e. 1/500s at EV-5 (i.e. action in street light)

Sigzilla seems to be the early favorite

Looks like a good way to hide an anti tank missile launcher.

It'll probably be popular with the paparazzi.

This elephant trunk is too big.
Plus this beast weighs a ton. I figure about 25 pounds.
You try running this beast and a bag full of cameras.
Plus, I like to hide and not be noticed.
This beast will make me standout in a very big way.
At best after looking to this beast today, I could take a leg off of my Camouflage trousers and cover the lens with it. LOL
Tom.

you know I think there's a market to create 'skins' for this camera. You could disguise it as a log, or an aligator, maybe a volkswagon - I really think someone can make some serious $$$ designing camoflauge skins for it.

There are a few manfacturers already making lens camo covers.
BirdsAsArt calls them lens coats. This new 200-500 if/2.8 s not in the list of available sizes yet :G

You don't want that lens. That is not a man's lens. That is a sissy lens. This is a man's lens.

Wow!!!! Any lens is handholdable depending on the individual. But, for the average person, I would think this would be a 15 to 20 pound monster that would really need to be on a tripod. I'd definitely like to try one out!!! I would guess around $10K and it is totally worth it because they throw in a 2X teleconverter. That makes all the differenc!!!:G

dennis
on another site i heard specs of around 35 lbs and some ounces and a price tag at that of the the Canon 600 f/4 IS

ofcourse as far as i know its all speculation until Sigma announces the specs.
