I was wondering if anyone had an opinion as to which of these lens was the best.
Canon 17-85mm IS USM
or
Sigma 18-200mm OS

The Sigma seems to have a great range, thats what is making me look at it.
but Image quality and good IS is more important to me.

Is the Sigma OS as good as the Canon IS?

Thanks

No one has any thoughts on this?

I know the OS version is very new, and not even out yet,
but I was wondering if anyone still knew anything about it.
Seems most liked the non-OS version, so this one should be really nice.

I can't comment on the Sigma lens as I've never used it, but expect to see some significant sofening due to the zoom level it provides. Just note that more zoom range means more quality issues.

I have the 17-85 and it's a decent lens. It has some pitfalls though, such as barrel distortion at the wide end, chromatic aberations, and some vignetting. All of this can be corrected in software if you want to spend the time though. Don't let this scare you away though, it's a pretty sharp lens and it's very versatile. Great for traveling and I've done many model shoots and events with this lens.

Here's two shots from my 17-85
