I agree with John G.

Just get it!
This lens is used to gain maximum sharpness for certain
subjects in the studio here. The 1.4 is nice because its
made of metal, but I can't stop using it when shooting
Raw. Around $70 us / $120 CDN. A big bargain.

Regards.

It's small and light. It makes the 350D/XT very easy to carry around.

Any difference in the bokeh of the 1.8 vs 1.4?

Other than the build quality, is the 1.4 ataround 300$ is worth it or not? vs the 70$ 1.8

its mostly personal preference.

i also have the 85L. i love the f1.2 DOF on certain shots..its def mind blowing..

on a straight face it will blurr from ears and beyond. I need to step down to f2 or 2.8 to get the full face in focus.

For 1.4 iguess u will lose some detail though sharpness from the lens would be different

As u saw a lot of examples where f1.8 produces really good image

The strength i see is low light performance. If f1.4 gives u 1/30th of a second , probably f.18 wil give u 1/15-1/20th of a second.

As i started the answer, its more of personal preference with respect to these lens.
