Lo all.

I've recently invested in an XT / 350D and I'm now building my arsenal.
I'm looking for a nice prime lens, but nothing too expensive.

What are your thoughts on the EF 50mm f/1.8 II?

Have a gander at the following sample images. Taken with a Rebel XT and this lens.

Yes, I've seen some very nice samples and the price is very affordable.

There is a good review of it and the other Canon 50mm lenses at http://www.slrgear.com

Not sure what you are asking really. It's a bit messy at f1.8, not too awful at f2, and pretty good from f2.8 downwards. Its flaws are more evident on FF rather than a crop camera. At f8 it is just as good as the f1.4 or f1.2L.

It's very light and made of plastic. The AF is slow and noisy compared to USM.

It's very cheap.

In the right hands can be used to make great images.

Best bargain in the canon system. At $70 you just can't go wrong.

I bought the Canon 50mm f1.8 II when I bought my Digital Rebel and use it mostly for taking indoor sports photos (Basketball) and just love it. I have had it for three years and I would not be without it. I now have not only the 300D but also the 350D and use the 50mm all the time.
