Just wondering if anyone has the newer (macro) version of the Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 lens?

It's top of my hitlist as a replacement for the kit lens I got with my 400D and was wondering whether anyone has any real-life reviews of the lens.

The only review I've seen of the newer version of the lens is in a magazine which seems to give good reviews to all the Sigma lenses it tests

My main priority is for a pin-sharp lens and I know Sigma has a reputation for sharp lenses.

The only other two on my list are the Sigma 17-70 variable aperture and the Tamron 17-50mm constant f2.8

Thanks in advance,

I was playing with my friend Nikon this weekend and he has one...
Seems like Sigma has re-released a whole bunch of new lenses all with HSM (to work with the D40/D40x)

... I don't know if the Canon version has changed @ all though (i.e. no HSM), the old one also had Macro! :O
