I bought a 200 2.8L on E-Bay. It is in immaculate condition and seems very sharp in the couple of tests I have tried. One odd thing - it is missing the O-ring that seals to the body. I have a 17-40L and am familiar with the weather sealing.I don't often shoot in anything but nice weather but the extra protection would be nice to have. Does anyone know if you can buy the O-ring and putit on yourself? If this is a job requiring shipment to Canon, I probably will just use it as is.

as far as i know the 200mm f2.8 is not weather sealed or rather does not have the O rings

16-35mm 2.8 L USM
17-40mm 4L USM
24-70mm 2.8 L USM
24-105mm 4 L IS USM
70-200mm 2.8 L IS USM
28-300mm 3.5-5.6L IS USM
300mm 2.8L IS USM
400mm 2.8L IS USM
400mm 4 DO IS USM
500mm 4 L IS USM
600mm 4 L IS USM

the above list of lens's hae the O rings. Even the new 85MM F1.2 and 50mm F1.2 have the O rings.(i guess :?)

The 200mm is not weather sealed. Not all Canon lenses are weather sealed. Most people seem to think all L glass is, but it is NOT. The list above looks pretty accurate.

It also depends on when you got the lens - Older 17-40mm 4L's for example are not weather sealed until 2005/06...

Thanks everyone for clearing that up. I was one of those that thought that all L lenses had seals. My 17-40 was bought in early 2006 and fits into NHL's time frames. I will stop thinking about the ring and go enjoy using the lens.
