I might be getting an XT with 18-55mm kit lens - new. And I could get a Tamron 19-55mm for $150, then sell my canon 18-55 for $100 (locally). Is it worth it? Which one is better? Keep the canon, or sell it and get the tamron? Thanks

I have shot with the non-IS 18-55mm, the 18-55mm IS (I still have it), a Tamron 17-50 2.8, and a Canon 17-55mm F2.8 IS which I also own. I have never tried a Tamron 19-55mm so I can't speak directly to the quality of it.

From what I have noted, The new 18-55mm IS kit lens is closer to the 17-55 F2.8 than it is to the non-IS 18-55mm. This is under good lighting conditions. Once you start comparing low light shots it swings back to being closer to the 18-55 IS model.

I am not familar with the Tamron lens you mentioned but if it falls in the same brightness catagory as the kit lens from Canon I would go with the Canon 18-55mm IS lens. The IS is worth every penny (And then some) you pay extra for. With my less than steady hands I would not be without an IS featured lens. Tripod shooting is another story but I digress.

You have me searching everywhere for this Tamron 19-55 lens. It doesn't show up on Tamron's website or Amazon or B&H and any other websearch?!

If you can, I would also go with just buying the XTi body, and then add the Image Stabilized kit lens. If the XTi with kit lens is cheaper bundled, and you're sure you can sell the kit lens and make a profit, sure, go that route...
