I just ordered this lens I did read the reviews that were out on the net. Does anybody have one and really like it?

Don't own one but did shoot some pictures with that lens in the store using my 40D at full zoom, also shot some pictures using the 70-300 Canon non IS version. The test shots taken inside the storewith the Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 USM IS came out really well using existing store light. The non IS did okay too when I could hold the camera still enough to keep from blurring the picture, I like that IS mode.

Be sure to post some pictures and lets us know what you think of the lens after you have played with it for a while.

i know a lot about it though even though i dont have it, its considered a hidden L class lens because they put really nice glass in it!, so its pretty sharp, and the IS pretty much makes every picture a good non blurred picture!

I plan on going Hawk hunting as soon as I get the chance. I have been wanting to photograph this monster I see every now and then, He/She is huge.

I have one and I absolutely love it. IS is definitely worth it at the long lengths if shooting hand held.

I love this lens too !
You won't (or shouldn't ) be disappointed

Two shots, both @ 235mm, ISO 100, F/8, 1/6sec....hand held.

Without IS....

With IS.....don't forget this was @ 1/6sec !!

Impressive what the IS can do to reduce camera shake, thanks for posting the two pictures. I have been looking at that (70-300 IS) lens, as it looks like it will do everything I my ever be shooting. The wife thinks I should get the 70-200mm F2.0L IS Canon with a 1.4 telx converter but that just seem a bit of over kill to me.

Post some pictures (lots) taken with the 70-300 so we can all see what it can do for us. Maybe even start a 70-300 lens pictures thread, posting pictures taken with the lens at different focal lengths.

It is a great lens. It can be a little soft when fully extended at 300mm but not enough to worry about. The IS will give you about 3 stops advantage, depending on how steady your hold is anyway.
