I have a Canon 10d and I think I remember reading once that some of the newer lenses for the Canon DSLR bodies don't fit the older bodies and that something had to be modified or cut to make them fit. I searched and can't find the info, anyone know?

They mean the EF-S lenses

The EF lenses will work just fine... The EF are full-frame lenses whereas the EF-S are for cropped camera bodies only!

-> If you buy 3rd party lenses then it doesn't matter since they all fit and do not differentiate between EF or EF-S mount on a 10D

Your body is designed to use Canon EF Mount lenses only. Newer Canon DSLR bodies with APS-C size sensors can use EF or EF-S mount lenses. Here's an article on modifying an EF-S lens to work on a 10D if you really wanted to go to that much trouble:
