I currently have a Canon 30D with the 17 -85 is kit lens as a walk around lens on it. I'm happy with the results except when used at wide angel which seems to have quite a bit of distortion. The new Sigma 18-250 os seem to have a good review in 'PoP Photography'.Would it be a good idea to get that lens, or should I be content with what I have for now and someday upgrade to Canon L series lenses? I'm thinking of getting the 17 -55 is lens and then the 70- 200 F4 is lens some day in the future.I know that leaves a gap but I'm trying to be reasonable . What Im saying is that I don't have to have 'the best', but, I would like to upgrade to the best for the money. Thankyou for your advice.

i have the 17-55 and wouldn't take anything for it ,but for a walk around lens the18-250 may be your choice due to having both a wide end and a good range zoom . i used my tamron 28-300 at disney world and it did a really good job but a little wider end would have been good.plus if it's damaged you won't be as broken hearted as you would if it was a $1000 lens.

dean, i almost had a heart attack when i read you had a sigma 18-250 os. i lost sleep over whether to get the sigma 18-200 os, or the tamron 28-300 vc for a month, until i finally settled on the 18-55 is kit lens (for the odd wide shot), and the tamron (great for hiking and biking). heck, i almost got a sony a350, just for the sony 18-250mm lens!

after breaking out in a cold sweat, and checking the sigma site, i'll assume you meant 18-200mm (just not quite long enough where i do the bulk of my shooting. 18-250 and i could be persuaded)?

They did come out with an 18-250mm os. Just tested in pop photography magazine believe it or not. Dean

Sigma 18-250 OS ?

Then you must know more than Sigma

There is a (new) ---> 18-125 OS .. thats all.

Nobody, who makes a 18-200 OS makes some month later a 18-250 OS.

I am wrong. It is Tamron not Sigma that came out with the 18-250 lens. Sorry for the mistake.
