Hi guys,

During a storm abt. 30 dust particles got inside my EF-S 18-55mm lens from the top – focus ring. When I am in Manual Focus mode, my camera – Rebel Xt works fine, however, when I am in AF mode it takes some time for camera to respond.

How can I clean the dust? What is the way to disassemble the lens? Should a professional do this?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear about what happened to your lens..

I think the only advice that can be given is send it back to Canon for cleaning and servicing.

"Never open up a lens by yourself".. There are many other things involved in it than just the glass.. (i.e: alignment, calibration, electronics and so on.)

Let the Pro Servicing teams handle it.

I think anyone would give you this same advice.. but i could be wrong.
