EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
or EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM

I know that one is f4 and other one is 2.8
and one is wide than other other
I already have a 70-200 f 2.8 L IS, but I need to buy all new lenses since i sold all my nikon gear and have moved over to canon.
You can reccomend any other lenses if you would like
btw I shoot all kinds of stuff from landscape to sport to portraits

thanks for your help

24mm is not that wide on the 40D. The 17-40 is a better buy.

option 2 is the EF-S Lens 17-55 F2.8 IS. This lens has very good reviews from actual users. It is wide, f2.8 and has IS to get even better hand held shots without flash. OVerall the lens is pretty good(cannot expect a Prime level sharpness but tradeoff are everywhere)

Other option is 16-35 f2.8 if u need the f2.8 at the wide end. I see a marked difference in the newer version of the 16-28 in the wide end. @16mm the sharpness drop off in the corners is pretty small. I am constantly using this lens for group shots at f2.8 and the coverage is good in natural light.

But overall the 17-40 L is a perfect solution if u dont need the F2.8

Exactly why I asked for which camera...
-> This lens has a better IQ on a cropped camera over the other two L's in almost all measurable data points:

and yes the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 is also ahead of the 16-35 f/2.8L in most areas as well...
