I just picked up a nifty fifty because i had no lenses left after returning my XSI. The seller told me the it seemed soft wide and gave it to me really cheap. I'm wondering if you guys think it's abnormally soft.

Not really possible to say from such small jpg files whether it's soft or not.

But from what can be seen there is no obvious cause for concern.

Most likely the seller couldn't come to grips with the narrow DOF.
