How do I get my lens to mode 2?

I assume you're talking about the IS. The 28-135 does not have a mode 2 setting for IS.

There are only two switches on the 28-135, AF/MF and IS on/off, no mode two. For a the small price of about $1,800.00 you can buy a 70-200 2.8L IS that has a mode one and two switch, for close focus and distance focus. Not all lenses have duel modes.

I think you may be mixing up two different things. The mode 1 vs. mode 2 refers to whether IS is applied only to 1 axis (for panning shots)or to both.

The focus setting switch is something different alltogether. The non-IS version of the 70-200 2.8 also has that switch.

or perhaps I misunderstood your post which is entirely possible too :G
