I've read alot of good thingsabout the kenko 1.4x teleconverter, but can not get a clear answer ifthe AFwill work with my setup or not. I use a Canon 30D with the 100-400L 4.5-5.6 IS.

Just wondering if anyone out there has used this converter, and if the AF will work with my lens.

Thanks

Mugmar

Nope, the teleconverters, with Canon cameras, stop AF once it goes beyond F5.6. Which means that the one stop loss due to the teleconverter will make your lens go beyond F5.6.

Not true a 1 series camera will have AF up to f8.

You can get AF with your 100-400 by using a non reporting TC (kenko 1.5x, cheap tamron TC) or by using the tape trick.

That's why I stay away from the 1 series boards on dpreview. My knowledge of that level of cameras is pretty slim.

But in the end it's not relevant anyway since the OP is not shooting with a 1-series.

Only correcting the reply letting the OP know of the fact. Why post only to criticise my reply and offer nothing relevant to the original topic JohnG?

If I wanted to be treated like thisI will post on dpreview.

Sorry if you take it as criticism. But what a 1-series can or cannot do isn't relevant to the OPs situation. The other part of youre response was. I merely suggested to the OP what a 1-series can or cannot do really has no bearing on his question.

Was just correcting KALE33 reply

"Canon cameras, stop AF once it goes beyond F5.6"
and making the OP aware that this is not the case with all Canon cameras. Just thought it might be a bit of useful information highlighting the difference in features between cameras in Canons range.

No criticism taken JohnG maybe I could have worded my reply better.
