some guy offered me his 28-105mm II USM canon lens for $100 and in an hour he'll be here.
should I take it or not? is it worth it?

He's had it for 4 years and took good care of it, though I've personally haven't seen it yet.

(I'm still new)

Worth the $100 ... yes if the lens is in excellent working order and it does what you want. But is it tack sharp like an "L" lens? No. General purpose use, yes; better than a P&S, yes... however, mine is no longer even in my camera bag since I got hooked on the sharpness of the far, far more expensive L's.

Here is what it costs new about $200

Its not a great lens. There are many better lenses on the market. As the other gentleman said what do you want to shoot? A 50 Prime that has greaet quality can be has for under $100 new. Canon Makes a pretty damn good 18-55 IS lens for around $150 or as part of Camera purchase for under a $100. Tamron makes a very well regarded 17-50 for around $400.

What lens do you have now? Never by under pressure.
