I have the Canon 50mm 1.4 lens. On the distance scale provided on the lens, it has markings for f/22, which i assume, is the position you set the focusing ring to if you want to hyperfocal focus the lens at f/22

It's almost guaranteed though that I would not shoot at f/22 due to diffraction. If I shoot at say f/8, do I leave the focusing ring on the f/22 mark or else, how do I figure out where HFD is for f/8?

Many Thanks!

The HFD varies with the aperture: (click on the attached chart for the closest distance)
