Default Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS - weird noises?

I have been using the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS on my XTi, and over the weekend while shooting I noticed a buzzing, popping sound - it was very faint but I heard it because I was alone in the woods. The sound is familiar to when an electrical device shorts out and fries (snap crackle POP!!!)

I have never noticed the noise before, and am curious if this is normal? Has anyone experienced this before? The lense is only a couple of months old so I am unhappy about these weird noises.

I appreciate your help!!

It is probably the image stabilization and is likely nothing to worry about.

I can certainly hear the IS gyros working on my lenses.

Easy to test - switch the IS off and see if it makes the noise. :-)

Wow - why didn't I think of that. I will give that a try. Thanks a lot!

I have the same sounds coming from my lens. It's just the IS working.
The sound will disappear when you turn off the IS.
Shouldn't be a problem.
