Default Canon is lens

I have a canon 70-270 mm IS lens and there is a choice to use IS1 or 2. What is the difference.
Thank you

IS1 is general use, IS2 is for panning work such as shooting cars etc.

I either use IS1 or have it switched off. Hope that helps.
