Default insane lens reach

A few months ago I bought a 2x Bower extension for my canon XSi and lenses.

The Bower messed with the auto focus something awful. Couldn't get it to focus. It kept trying and trying, but no luck. So I put it away.

Yesterday, I pulled it out again.

I put the Bower 2x on a Canon 70-200 2.8 IS Lens (instead of my sigma 70-200 2.8) and put both on the XSi (1.6 crop factor).

200mm with the 2x bower with the 1.6 crop = 640mm. I then took a photo of a car's license plate that was well over 500 yards way (I'm guessing 500 based on my golfing estimation). I got the camera as still as I could and took the shot. I could read the license plate clearly once I loaded the photo onto my computer.

I have no idea why the Bower works on the Canon lens and not the Sigma lens. But that kind of reach was my laugh for the day.

Faithfully yours.
