Default Canon SLR 70-300mm Lens

I just purchases a Canon 70-300 mm lens for my SLR Rebel and less than 24 hours after hooking it up and testing it out my 2 yr old son pulled it off the table where it was hooked up to the computer and proceeded to drop the entire camera and lens on the hardwood floor. The filter on the lens cracked and it was removed without incident.

What type of damage and what should I be looking for when taking photos after the jolt to the camera and lens. It seems to be taking pictures fine but I just want to be aware of what to look for. I'm very new to this and am sick about this!

Thanks for any input you may have.
