Default Is this a good lens to buy? Alternative? Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG

I apologize if this has been discussed before but is Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro Zoom lens a good buy? Are there any other alternatives at the same price range? Please let me know. Amazon has this lens for $159 with filters (link: http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-70-300mm.../dp/B000KDSIOM)

you know, you really should consider saving up an extra 100$ and picking up Canon's 55-250 IS. It is optically better and has image stabilization, which is quite useful for these slower aperture consumer telephotos.

Thank you. I changed my mind. The only reason I was considering it was I could get it for only $80 but the seller already sold it. I don't feel bad.

The Tamron 70-300 Di LD is a better choice for about the same money, but it's not stabilied like the Canon 55-250, which is better still but also more expensive.
