I looked at the longer lenses, my wife does not like using heavy lens, she doe not use my ef 70-300mm but rather use the ef-s 55-250mm instead. I looked at the tamron 180mm marco and it would be to heavy for her. Is the sigma 150mm in the same weight class as the ef 100mm f2.8 or closer to the tamron 180mm?

the sigma is larger than the 100 2.8, probably not far off the tamron.

it is probably too large then.

Mark,

I compare the sigma 105 to the canon 100 at the store today, the canon on af is allot faster with the USM. It actually makes for a decent 100mm prime lenses on top of it's marco ability. Since it is discontinue, it is about 500 new. It is about same price as the sig.

That's good news, here it is still about 100 cheaper so I'm happy with the saving.

How much is ef 100 lens there, at 1.60 dollar for a pound. I know that it was selling for 580 euros over in germany during x-mas, and the exchange of 1.42 made it very expensive.

OK,

I have narrowed it down to 2 lens, I factored out the 60mm, as it is so close to the ef 50 2.5 in range. The sigma 105, and the ef 100 2.8. Did not care to much for the tamron 90. It was slower the the sigma in AF and it did not seem that it would serve as a prime lenses as well as the other two.

So since price is about the same as the ef 100 is discountinue, and with some haggling the price is almost identical. Which will be the better lens, macro is the first and foremost consideration.

If there is no price difference or very little then I would be going Canon.

They are both excellent, but for the same price, or near it, I would also go for the Canon.

Actually I can get the canon lens for 10 dollars less then the sigma. Think I will take your suggestion and go with the canon.

Guess I will wait longer to get my first non canon lens, Not sure what will be next though.
