that is why I suggested the t1i body with the ef100 f2 if he can get close enough, don't think the xt would be good for that situation.

I posted the goof, as it is technically three 1/3 stops if you do not factor in iso as I was corrected. That is all. Do not want to let my error stand. I should learn to be more technical with my post.

Mark,

I have a question. I do not use TC, but would a TC of 2x be useful in the ballet situration with a faster prime lens?

Nope, that's going to hurt things in a bit way. A 2x TC will reduce the aperture by two stops so if you have f2 then you get f4, you are better off with a longer f2.8 lens. Adding to the loss of light you also will get quite a reduction in IQ/AF and any lens flaws are made worse. I only use a 2x TC when I have very good light and only if there are no other options.

No worries, always good to ask questions.

So a T1i with a 70-200/2.8 is kfinley's best option, unless we count the Sigma 120-300/2.8.

You know everyone wants to join the club and get a 120-300mm f2.8 LOL. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to talk mine with me when I move to Egypt which is a pain.

wouldn't a IS lens be useful in this situation without going for a 3k solution?

It might be if we are talking of having borderline shutter speeds but probably not too much as I would hope that there would be light for 1/320s + so IS isn't going to really assist. However if shutter speeds are lower then it might help but it won't help with the movement of the dancers.

I'd go with a monopod. It's worked well for me when shooting school events with my 'Beercan'.
