Why not?

Hehe, firstly that should say take..... it has gone 2am here so not really awake LOL.

I will have too much stuff anyway and can't justify the weight of taking this (shipping costs) so will have the 70-200mm f2.8 as the longest option while I'm away. I will have 1.4 and 2x TCs with me too. Also in reality I won't be shooting much sport so can survive..... actually not sure how much shooting I will do with all the wedding plans etc.

o.k. now... I think I will buy the new body and the 70-200 f/2.8, BUT can I get either the tamron or the sigma which are less expensive?

LOL I was going to bed.... people stop posting I want to sleep but can't refuse a question. (I bet TCav will beat me to the answer anyway).

The Tamron is very sharp but slow focusing so not great for action. The Sigma is fast focusing but not quite so sharp, however for your needs makes a good compromise and quite a saving over the Canon. I used to have the Sigma (as did JohnG one of our top sports shooters) and now we both use Canon options. John has the 70-200mm f2.8 L Non IS and I have the IS. The non IS is sharper but as I now shoot more weddings and other low light non sport events it was better to lose a bit of sharpness and get the IS.

It is going on 3am in Germany, got a flight at 10am back to the states.
You can shot the camel races, if you are interested in shooting some sports

But seriously, I can see that it would be allot of gear to lug around.

The Sigma is a better option than the Tamron. The tamron doesn't have a focus motor fast enough for good sports shooting (although it's sharper than the sigma). The sigma is a good option.

I'm already planning to take the Canon 5D mkII, Canon 7D, Canon 24-105mm f4, Sigma 17-70, Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 (possibly I like backups to the main lens when I shoot as wedding but I could be being greedy), Canon 70-200mm f2.8, Canon 580EXII and 580EX flash guns...... hmmmmm oh and the 1.4 and 2x TCs. I will also have the SX1 and possibly Panasonic TZ5 as my fiance's camera is poorly. I will have to survive without the 105mm macro even though I've only just got it..... oh, just remembered I will have the 50mm f1.8 too but think I will leave the 85mm f1.8 behind but would love that with me too.

I might reconsider when I look into the shipping costs but this is the plan so far.
