What do you want to shoot?

There are no bad macro lenses, but certain focal lengths are better than others for certain subjects. For instance, if you want to shoot insects or other small creatures, a longer lens will help you maintain a suitable distance so you don't frighten the subject. Canon's 100mm f/2.8 macro lens is excellent, but Tamron's 180mm f/3.5 is very good, and gives you a lot more working distance for just a little more money.

This sigma 150mm is a nice lens, and it is a bit heavy for hand held work. Get a good tripod. It will help out allot. Something that can be a grounder as well.
