If I were going for one then it would be the 70-300, however, just a double check, what sports are you thinking, outdoors, indoors etc?

sports would be mainly outdoors (baseball, soccer etc)
but that wouldn't be the main purpose of the lens.
Also, is there a 3rd party lens comparable to this one in specs that would make more sense price-wise? Sigma or somebody else maybe?
I just want to cover my bases.
thx

The 70-300 would be the better of the 2 lens, and the better reach will be and advantage for shooting baseball and soccer if you are close to the field. It is the great jack of all trades lens.

If you want to see some examples of the 70-300 check out my thread. The board soften them a bit. And I stop down a bit to much.
