J&R is also in NYC and is open during Jewish holidays, they get a good bit of business at this time as B&H and Adorama are closed and are close on pricing. Beach camera aka buydig.com is another good source but a little higher on prices. If you walk into Beach Camera you can get them to match B&H or Adorma but they wont do it on Web sales. If its priced lower than the two big guys then chances are its either a scam or a catch. I tried Tristate Camera once and placed an online order. Waited a few days and its still not shipped then get a call to "verify the purchase" from them. Well what this translates to is bait and switch. They tried to sell me a boatload of upgrades which I refused then the story changed to that was a typo on the price and when I finally got to management or atleast someone different the story changed to that lens is backordered and will be 6-8 weeks but we have a gray market lens that we can ship for the original price. Meanwhile they had already charged my card and in the end had to call my CC company to get my money back.

Here is a list I borrowed of avoid at all cost! One in particular Broadway photo lists their address in Brooklyn that is an abandoned warehouse in a shady part of town. These are all flat out scams, there are many more that practice the bait and switch.

I love my Sigma 17-70mm. I have the non-stabilized version on a 40D.

thx to all for the suggestions. after long time thinking i kinda flipped the switch on everything and decided to get the 60mm f2.8 Macro lens.
was always intrigued with macro and it seems the lens works pretty well for portraits as well (albeit maybe a bit too sharp)

I just decided that 700+ (15-85) for a walk around lens was a bit too much
