Here are 2 macro shots I took with my ef 100mm 2.8 macro, the non L
First is without the 500D conversion lens, the second is with the 500d conversion lens.

First one is the actual coin, second was 1:1 as close as I could get to get focus, the 3rd with the 500D lens on, and I got as close to get a focus.

Interesting. Are you suggesting I get a conversion lens for macro shooting? It's an interesting idea...

Thanks. Are you talking about the L series 70-300?

Also, do you have a sense of when the new 5D3 will be coming out?

It will make for a simpler setup, less stuff to bring with you. But if you do go with a marco lens, a good conversion lens like the 500D will give you super macro on a tripod.

The 70-300L will be high for a while. The new 5D3 may be out end of next year. I will get it once it comes out. But I really do not think we will see it before nov of 2011

Thanks!

Is the 60D worth upgrading to even though it no longer has a metal body? I sure would love to have video, but I like a big camera in my hands.

yes it is suppose to be better weather seal then the 50D. It is just a tad slower in the burst mode at 5.3 vs 6.3 of the 50D. I tried it at the store, it is very well made.

If I was not set on the 5d3, it would be worth a serious look for me.

So maybe I'll just keep the 40D and upgrade to the 5D3 next year. 40D's still pretty good, although I don't love it in low light. The Sigma 50mm f/1.4 should help at least a little with that. I just wish the 40D had video!

How much better is the Canon 50mm f/1.2L than the Sigma 50mm f/1.4?

Head and shoulders?
