Hey I have found a Canon 17-85, I know yall said not as good as 15-85, but better than kit lens. It is a couple years old, belongs to a professional photographer. He said he has just had it cleaned professionally, and has all paperwork to prove it, and has hood caps and everything with it, original boxes, etc. He wants $265 firm, is that a good price? From what I can tell it is, but thought I would ask you guys.

p.s. this is a local guy, not online

Ok I bought the 17-85 today. The guy knows alot about cameras, which he lived nearby so I could take lessons!! Its a lot heavier than I expected. If I am taking indoor (or outdoor for that matter) of my 1 1/2 year old grandchild, should the AF mode be on OneShot or AL Focus?

If she is not moving around, single shot. If she is running around AI Servo.

And high shutter speed if possible. I get some problems even at 1/100 indoors when my 2 year old daughter runs.

a good external flash is what you really need for indoor running around.
