Default First one!

don't wanna go crazy and spend a couple of hundred bucks.. i was thinking about Canon 50mm 1.8 maybe? it's pretty cheap i found locally for 70 bucks . I kinda like blurry background.. i guess this is the only choice i have as i said i have no plans to spend over 100 bucks on lens in near future. I'm happy with 18-55 which some people say is a terrible lens

Spending a couple thousand wouldn't actually qualify as going crazy either. Such is the world of dSLRs.

That 50mm is my favourite lens for making panoramas!

Like this 8 shot 14463 px * 4740 px (65 megapixel) image done with an old EOS 20D

The lens is cheap, its mostly all plastic, its noisy, and it works very well!

Here's an older zoo shot again done with that 50mm and an old 20D.

It is a hard to go wrong with that lens expecially if you get it for under 100$. I picked mine up used for just over 50$

The background black noise is the 20D's being pushed up a bit too far in the ISO range, nothing to do with the lens.

The 50mm f/1.8 is great value. The construction is cheap and nasty,
but they are optically excellent. Go for it. At $70, you can't go wrong.
If you don't like it, you will get most of or all of your money back
when you sell it.

I have heard a few bad reports about the older 18-55mm non IS
Canon kit lens. Mostly very good reports about the more recent
IS versions. Like you, I'm happy with mine.
