The 28-135 is not a bad lens, there were bad early copies but that was resolved. I use it as my walk around lens. It is better then the ef-s 18-135, and it focus pretty quickly. And pretty sharp stop down. It is not a L series lens, but a good preformed.

any revisions on recommendations given the new budget?

NO

The 75-300 is a very poor lens. The ef-s 55-250 is a way better lens optically and has IS.

The 55-250mm is by far the better lens.

Sounds a good deal, though I'm not familiar with the lens and don't know how good it is. Do remember you'll have a gap of focal lengths between 55 and 75, though that may not matter to you. The extra reach of 300 compared with 250 will be useful if not dramatic.

I second and third the 55-250 as it is FAR better than the 75-300 which is pretty much garbage. Don't waste your money. I had the 55-250 with my T1i and loved the combo. I used it 99% of the time over the kit lens. The photos were generally sharp and had good IQ. Spend the extra few hundred and get the better lens.

When I first bought my T1i I had the kit lens, the 55-250 and 50 1.8 as my lens set up and I was extremely happy with that. The 55-250 is great for traveling as its very light, fits the rebel series perfectly and allows you the flexibility of having the desired reach you'll what while on your trip. As another poster said, this is pretty much the basic set up of most people starting out and I think its a good one. You'll find that the 18-55 won't be long enough when you're country side but would be ideal in close city quarters. The 50 comes in handy when you're in a darker area that doesn't allow flash as someone else had already mentioned.

Just STAY AWAY from the 75-300. When I was first researching lenses not one person felt this was a better purchase over the 55-250 and they were correct.

On a side note, I had the 28-135 for a brief time and didn't care for it with my T1i. It felt heavy to me at the time and for traveling around, I liked the lighter 55-250. But, that was just personal preference.

Be VERY careful in Prague. Street crime there is common. It wasn't years ago when I went, but that was in communist days and things are different now.
