Default Can anyone suggest a lense?

hi

I was hoping someone could guide me in the direction of a lense for my canon t1i. I have been using the kit lenses that came w/the camera. They aren't bad at all, I've been using photoshop and shooting in Raw so that I can play with the pics more....

Yet i'm looking to order a lense tonight, and I'd like one that can give me better, crisper pictures for portraits specifically. I know the one I'd love yet can't afford that, it was some insane price like $1,200. lol.

I'm thinking something in the 100's range is that possible??

Thanks alot!

If you're looking for a replacement for the 18-55 kit lens, that will also do portraits, the closest thing is the Sigma 17-70/2.8-4.0 DC OS HSM. Where their ranges over lap, the Sigma is sharper at the wide end, and has less CA, but it's not as good at the long end.

If you're looking for something to suppliment the 18-55 kit lens, the Canon 85/1.8 is a good choice, as is the Sigma 70/2.8 macro. There are also some other macro lenses that can do well at portraiture, but the Sigma 70/2.8 is probably as sharp as it gets.

The canon 100 2.8 USM non L is a excellent macro and makes for a nice facial portrait lens as well.

Hi,

I decided to go with the EF 50mm 1.8 because I also ordered a tripod and a nissin flash for the camera, since the one on it isn't good enough.

The lense I really wanted was a fortune. I'm learning, yet amazed at what an expensive hobby this is.

thanks for all your help. We'll c how that lense does.

Good choice. The 50mm f1.8 is an inexpensive lens to play around with DOF. Have fun.
