Default Sigma 2x Converter and 70-200 F4 L Combo

I just received my Sigma 2x APO converter and was happy with the way it seemed to perform on the Bigma. I then did some reading about how it has been used on the 70-200 F2.8 L but nothing about it's performance on the 70-200 F4 L, so I gave it a little try myself and was pleasantly pleased.

Have a look here if such a topic is of any interest to you:

I guess I question why? You just got a brand new lens that has a lower f-stop and a longer focal length! So what is the interest in using the adapter on the 70-200 f4?

It's lighter and easier to cart around under a difficult situation. I could hand-hold this combination for a very long time without pooping out. That's a plus to me.

Hmmm!! Looking to use a similar combo in the Canon EF 1.4X or 2X Tele Extender with the 70-200mm f4.0 on the D-Rebel! Maybe not as fast, but much lighter and cheaper than the EF 100-400L!!! I am interested in any other info or findings you can present!

Thanks,

Ted

Thanks So Much for the Information! I'll have to go to the Canon Rep in New Orleans and put my hands on this equipment and decide from there! I'm leaning towards the 70-200L f4.0 w\extender for the versatility and lower cost but will see! All your help is appreciated and has given me more insight to make a better decision!

So, the Sigma 1.4x and 2.0x TC's work with the Canon 70-200L lenses (2.8 and 4.0). Also, does the AF work with both? I'm thinking the f/4.0 - 2.0x combo would lose the AF...

Andy...

The Sigma 2x apo only works MF with F4 Canon. It's only MF with 50-500 as well. I usually find myself playing with MF from that distance anyway.

With the Canon 70-200 f/2.8 IS...

1. Can you use it with the Sigma 1.4x and 2.0x TC's?
2. If so, do you lose IS or AF capabilities?
