I think the key here is not to tell the wives

Eric, I have given some thought to the 400, but after using IS, I'm not sure that's the way I want to go. Sure would be nice to see the 500 f/4 IS drop in price a bit :roll:

Boy am I glad for the lack of a wife. However, my gf gets after me already about camera stuff. <groan> I can only imagine if I was married! :lol:

I'd love for the 500 IS to drop in price. It's so high up there, there it doesn't seem worth it to pass on the 600, so that is what I'm planning on.

It's just a matter of the approach you take. Call it negotiating. I'll tell my wife I'm looking at the 300-800 at $4,500. I'll tell her I've reconsidered and am now going to get a 50-500. I'll be a hero for making such a sacrifice! If only it were that easy.
