Default Need lens help for 10D Canon

I am getting close to being ready to purchase a Digital SLR, most likely the 10D.

I have a limited budget and want to get an everyday lens for starters. I will be shooting mainly indoors/outdoors portrait type (glamour) work as well as doing som action type shooting of Judo and other marital arts. Decent macro would be nice, but I have another camera for that can work for that at this time.

What would you recommend as a good lens that won't break the bank. Quality is important but I think a $700+ lens is out of the question right now.

Thanks

For starters, the Canon 50mm f/1.8 is a must for the price. You can pick it up for $85 or less.

Default 28-135 IS

I think a canon 28-135 IS lens would make a good walk around lens if you are on a budget, at 28mm it is lacking a little on the wide end. The crop factor will give you a 42-216mm, so you have a lens that goes from very slightly wide to med. tele with image stabilization.

How would you compare this to the Canon 28-105 IS lens mentioned here? I am just wondering about the different from the 75 to 135 MM? Thanks.
