The last two weddings I shot were done digitally with the Digital Rebel and the 17-40 f4L took 98% of the shots. I also carried the 70-200 f4L but itis too long for the group shots at the church and anything you'd shoot at a reception- it's mainly for those back of the church shots during the ceremony. The 17-40 with it's effective zoom range of 27-64 on a digitalSLR provides the two most frequently needed focal lengths of 50mm and 28mm. I have thought in the past about adding the 85mm f1.8 but wonder now how much use it would get vs. whatI wouldpay for it. The 50mm f1.8 is probably, for the money you'd payand number of shots you'd use it for, the best companion lens.
