I am interested in Canon EF 100-400 lens. Any suggestions for or against

Nature and sport.I own canon elan and eos 10d body.I also have Tamron 28-200 lens.

The only downside is the fstop. I have the lens and like it a lot, but f5.6 at 400mm can drive you nuts. But you'll have to pay a lot more money for something with a better fstop at 400mm.

Almost every picture of mine in the wildlife section on this forum is taken with this lens.

But also note the comment

"The reality that just because the 400mm is a better lens it doesn't make the zoom instantly bad".

Ya, optically the 400 f5.6 is better, and its lighter too. But no IS and no zoom.
