I have a Sigma 105mm macro lens which doesn't autofocus any more with my canon EOS 300 35mm. The lens that came with the camera autofocuses fine (28-70mm) but not my precious macro lens. I know most macro shots aren't taken with autofocus anyway, but is there anything I can do to make this OK?

When I try and autofocus on a subject, the camera body motor whirrs away trying to change the focus of the lens, but the lens itself doesn't move. I haven't used my camera for a while but it used to work fine.

If the motor is moving but the lens isn't focusing, I'd say it's time for a trip to the repair shop. How old is the lens? Is there a MF/AF switch on the lens? Perhaps if you cycled the switch or you could try cleaning the contacts but I think it'slikely to bemore serious than something that simple.

thanks for the reply. The lens is about 3 years old, but hasn't been used for about a year or so
