I don't know if Greg want to take this, but it's not that black and white. There's facts and there's practicality...

If you scan the resulting negative with any scanner of 3200dpi or less you're slighly below the resolution of the above EOS 1Ds mrkII.

At 4800dpi or above you do get more resolution for the same FOV after the crop; However, can you get acceptable results with films at ISO 800-1600, like a 10D/20D could in low light in a gym with no flash that Greg would get for most of his action shots indoor?
