Looking at this on Ebay, will it fit the 300D and is it a good replacement for the kit lens?

Yes, it will fit on the Digital Rebel, and yes, it is a good replacement for the kit lens. It's not as wide, but is a good "normal" semi wide to short tele lens with super silent ring USM focus. Like most Canon consumer lenses, it performs best a stop or two down from maximum. Here's a good review:

the review talks about barrel distortion a fair bit, Im still tossing up over bidding on this, at present it is going for a price three times less than what I can buy it for and it is brand new.

hey alady...that would probably be good...

but remember, you're losing 6mm on the wide end, and adding 30mm to the tele- end...

so, with the 1.6x sensor crop the 24mm will be 38mm...not very wide...

Julie, the deal for 1/4 of the lens price and NIB sounds too good to be true to me. I go by the adage (especially on ebay and the like) that if it sounds too good to be true, well... then it probably is too good to be true!

depends on who is bidding, it was a private sale. A friend of mine got new perfect condition lenses for her camera and they were excellent, Ive noticed some people bid well over the price that they could buy things in the shop. I am bidding on another 28-105 USM lens at the moment, I check out the price via canon Australia first and then make up my mind what I will pay on Ebay. Right now if I was to buy this lens it would cost me $360.00 Australian and Im willing to bid to $250.00. Once it goes past what Im willing to pay, thats it, I stop. many people don't:-)
