I was looking at either the Canon Zoom Telephoto EF 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III USM, or the Sigma Zoom Telephoto 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO Zoom Macro Super II. I have heard good and bad things about both lenses. . .and they are about the same price. I like the 1:2 macro ability of the Sigma, but the USM motor of the Canon is nice too.
which would be the better deal:?:
Thanks!

I've had the sigma for a while, and i'm generaly happy with it.I also got a "filter" for macro that gives me 1:1 maginification.Nice cheap lens in my opinion.AF can hunt in low-light or uniform backgrounds.

may take a look at Canon's 100-300 USM, its not a bad lens for less than 300 bucks.. i like the build quality vs the others you mention..

also could look for a used canon 70-210 3.5-4.5 usm.. i have one thats bout 10 years old, and its build quality and sharpness is better yet..

and if you wanna spend more.. there's always the sigma 70-200 2.8 and NHL's favorite the 100-300 f4.0 for 700-800$$

I will check into the 100-300, as I want something that has at least a 300mm top zoom, as I will be taking mostly wildlife shots with it. I am leaning towards the sigma however, as it has macro.
Gaida, what power filter do you have that brings it up to a 1:1?
Does anyone here have any reccomendations on any other Canon mount lenses that have a 300-500mm top zoom that go for under 500 bucks?
Thanks!

The filter is made by Sigma
