I'm going to order my new 20D this weekend. I'm still not totally sure about what lens(es) to order. I've got my choices narrowed down to three combo's

1.20D/17-85IS/70-200L4.0 total cost 2490 euro (my favourite till now)

2.20D/17-40L/70-200L4.0 total cost 2583 euro

3.20D/17-85IS/10-22 total cost 2630 euro

Another option is getting the17-85 or 17-40 and save up to buy the 70-300DO later.

I already own a EF24/2.8 , EF50/1.8I ,EF85/1.8 , EF100macro2.8

Who has the answer.

Hello Cloggie...

I bought the EF-S 17-85IS with myEOS 20D back in November. It has become a wonderful lens for everyday use. I also bought an EF 50 1.8 and have used it only a few times. It works great in low light situations. I shot an evening candle lit event at church and the results were pretty good without flash. At $70, nobody should be without it.

My next lens will be the EF 70-200 F L 4. I've learned a lot about the 20D... my pictures are improving. Part of the improvement is due to my learning the camera, but the light is a lot better up here in the Great Northwest now than when I got my camera.

There have been a lot of negative posts about the 17-85, but lots of them are from people who have either never owned the lens or haven't learned how to use it.

Ok,I've ordered the lot already.

I've decided on the 17-40L/70-200,4.0 combination.

After seeing it in action last night at a friends house in combination with a 10d I made my mind up. Hopefully I'll have it by saturday.

After agonizing over this same question for months and returning a few lenses.... This is what I have finally purchased.

Canon 17-40 L Reason- It will work on my film camera, full frame digital, 1.3 and 1.6 crops. It produces awsome quality as long as the shutter pusher is any good:crazy:

The 70-300 DO IS. Reason- It will work on my film camera, full frame digital, 1.3 and 1.6 crops. It produces awsome quality as long as the shutter pusher is any good:crazy:

Also, I just love this lens very small and great versatility.

I will buy one of the following after the reviews come in.

Sigma 10-22 , Tamron 11-18, Tokina 12-24. If they all suck I sell my house and buy the canon 10-22. I dont want the Sigma 12-24 full frame, I am a bit rough on my equipment and I would trash the front element in anout 49 seconds....

I am going to sell my 28-135 IS and buy the Tamron 28-75 Di, I have used a friends and its very pleasing..... I am sick of the 28-135's size and zoom creep...

Last I have my fixed focal lengths... I have the Sigma 20 1.8, very nice.

The Canon 24 2.8 nice , sharp, good walk around lens.

Canon 50 1.8 mkII, everyone need one for 70 bucks....

100 2.8 Macro USM, best macro lens ever....

I am considering the new sigma 30 1.4, we will see what the review say....

Dream buy after I win the lottery.... Canon 400 4.0 IS DO....
