Here's some objective measurements taken from the respective manufacturer sites:

Canon: vs Sigma:

1. The upper curves are @ f/8 for Canon MTF -> compare the lower curves to Sigma which only plot wide open
2. For digital camera you can pretty much cropped everything above 15mm on the chart
3. The 'L' costs 3 times the 'EX'... and I can't objectively see the better performance here, at least in sharpness



How much sharper do you guys want? This is a sample from my 17-35 f/2.8-4 EX:

hey carl thinking of 17x22 or going wide format 24 although its a little $$ wish someone would come out with a 17x85 2.8 now that would be nice

well thanks for all the feedback. Along with other posts (about 10 hrs of looking a lotof info, comments )i have narrowed it down to 2 the 17x85 and the 18x50 the 24x70L was in contention till I saw its weight wow what a workout.for a walkabout..
