There are two lenses in that realm- the Sigma and the Tamron, both 18-200. They were tested side-by-side here:
http://tinyurl.com/86wu4 along with the Sigma 18-125.

The "????" represents the Tamron (the page is a Babelfish translation of a Japanese site).

Draw your own conclusions... They cost about the same.

i couldnt make sense of that is the tamron a plastic mount if so i think that kills it fo me
