Hey folks, just wanted to let you know that I have just finished testing the Canon 24-70mm F2.8 L series lens.

This particular copy is a dog. It will be returned tmrw and exchanged for another version, which I will test over the weekend.

I _wanted_ to like this lens, I really did, but here are the plain (and painful) facts:

At 24mm set at F2.8 through F4.5, the lens was horrifically soft. As much as I wanted to like this lens, I knew there may be a problem, butI was literally speechless when I saw how bad it was. I have a 28-90 that is sharper at F4/28mm than this.

At F5.6, there is a sudden improvement and the lens remainsamazingly sharp through the other apertures and speeds. It appears sharp at all corners and bokeh is very even. No chromatic aberration was detected.

I will let you know the results of the second version I test. I am also now going to test the Sigma equivalent.
