Have also just invested in a Sigma 70-300 4-5.6 APO Macro Super II having read NHL's comments in some thread or other. NHL - you should be on commission from Sigma! :-)

I was desperately in need of a fairly long telephoto zoom and the macro feature on this lens is a very nice bonus.

This beast just shows up very clearly how much I need to practice "steadycam" techniques though.

I've only had one shot at macro so far, set the tripod up in the living room last night when everyone was in bed and shot a variety of objects. My favourite from last night were some jelly beans (my in-laws just brought over a nice 4 pound bag with them from the US - not Jelly Belly's, but not much in it). Going to see if I can dig out my old lightbox and try shooting them on that (before I manage to get through all 4 pounds of 'em).
